Role Overview

As our first engineering executive, you’ll build and scale our product engineering organization—leading backend, frontend, data infrastructure, and site reliability teams. You’ll report directly to the CTO and take ownership of engineering strategy, architecture, team development, and delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Define and execute the engineering roadmap in alignment with Alembic’s product, data, and go-to-market objectives.

  • Team Building & Culture: Recruit, mentor, and develop a world-class engineering team. Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture.

  • Scalable Architecture: Architect and oversee robust, scalable systems—including data ingestion pipelines, workflow engines, complex algorithms, generative AI models, as well as cloud-based and on prem systems.

  • Delivery Excellence: Ensure high code quality, reliability, security and compliance, as well as operational maturity (CI/CD, monitoring, observability).

  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with Product and GTM teams to deliver features that resonate with enterprise customers.

  • Technical Oversight: Lead tech stack evaluations, enforce best practices (testing, documentation, architecture reviews), and champion innovation.

Must-Have Qualifications

  • 10+ years in engineering roles, with ≥ 5 years in leadership (engineering manager, director, or VP).

  • Proven ability to build and scale cloud-native, data-intensive, SaaS enterprise systems.

  • Deep experience with large-scale data pipelines, AI/ML infrastructure, and/big data technologies.

  • Strong track record of hiring and scaling engineering teams in startups (~10–100 employees).

  • Excellent communication skills with a track record of working across functions.

  • Startup mindset—comfortable with rapid pivots, tight delivery cycles, and wearing multiple hats.

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience in distributed systems and large-scale platforms.

  • Knowledge of LLM-powered pipelines, inference at scale, or real-time analytics.

  • Experience working with enterprise sales and deploying to enterprise customer environments.

Compensation Range: $308K
