Software Engineer in Test (QA Lead) (Remote in Canada)

The Role
As a Software Test Engineer, you’ll play a key role in ensuring the quality, reliability, and performance of our software while leading the QA function across the organization. You’ll define and uphold testing and automation standards, mentor QA teammates, and partner closely with engineering and product to drive a culture of quality, empathy, and continuous improvement.
Salary
210.000 CAD per year.
Who You Are
- Strong programming skills in languages like Python, Typescript, or JavaScript
- Experience with modern test automation tools (e.g., Cypress, Playwright, Selenium, Jest, Postman).
- Experience using or experimenting with AI tools to enhance testing and development workflows (e.g. generating test scenarios, summarizing defect trends, or improving release readiness insights).
- Experience in exploring new AI-driven methods that elevate QA effectiveness.
- Proven experience leading QA initiatives and mentoring others in test automation or process improvement.
- Familiarity with CI/CD systems (e.g., GitHub Actions).
- Understanding of QA methodologies, SDLC, and automation best practices.
- Experience using observability and monitoring tools (e.g., Sentry, Coralogix, Datadog, New Relic) to inform QA efforts.
- Excellent communication, empathy, and collaboration skills, with the ability to align teams around shared goals.
What You’ll Do
- Subject matter expert in leading and mentoring QA engineers, fostering a collaborative and empathetic team culture centered on growth and accountability.
- Define, own, and meet quality metrics, setting clear goals for automation adoption, test coverage, and process improvements to evolve the QA function strategically over time.
- Establish and maintain testing and automation standards, ensuring consistency and quality across all projects.
- Design, develop, and maintain automated test suites for APIs, services, and front-end applications.
- Build scalable test frameworks and tools that improve efficiency, reliability, and developer productivity.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define testing strategies and integrate automation into CI/CD pipelines.
- Leverage observability tools (e.g., Sentry, Coralogix, Datadog) to monitor application stability, track defects in production, and feed insights back into test coverage improvements.
- Leverage AI technologies to optimize QA workflows, automating repetitive tasks, improving test case generation, accelerating root cause analysis, and supporting data-driven decision-making.
- Collaborate with engineering and product teams to identify opportunities where AI can improve efficiency, coverage, and overall product reliability.
- Lead and participate in incident remediation.
- Work collaboratively with software support specialists and customer success.
- Continuously evaluate and adopt tools, frameworks, and processes that strengthen QA effectiveness.
- Investigate and communicate software defects clearly, helping teams resolve issues quickly and prevent regressions.
